LARGO – Two Clearwater men have been arrested by Largo police on charges of burglary and attempted burglary, as well as dealing in stolen property.
Thomas L. Keihn, 31, and Wendell D. Booth, 23, allegedly stole a red Honda 3500 generator from the home of Debbie Thomen, whose son, Anthony, suffers from respiratory problems. Thomen lives in the northeast section of the city.
Booth also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Booth and Keihn, who remained in Pinellas County Jail on bond, allegedly stole the generator while Thomen was sleeping. She heard a loud sound and called police.
Police soon arrested Booth and Keihn on Rosery Road.
“This is the first case of a stolen generator that we know about since the storms began last month,” said Capt. Glen Smith.
“We always put extra patrols out on the road at night during these storms,” Smith said.
Booth, who also is facing trial on another burglary case in July, was being held at the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday evening in lieu of $35,250 bail. Keihn was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
In other storm related incidents, fire officials are dealing with something residents may have not expected.
Forgot about that meat loaf in the oven? The dinner that didn’t happen when the power went out during Hurricane Jeanne?
Fire officials want everyone to remember that once the power is restored, some home appliances should be checked to make sure they’re turned off.
“We’re getting a number of calls for service from residents who are experiencing fires after Progress Energy turns the power on,” said fire District Chief David Morrin.
