Power equipment distributor (AGI) Aurora Generators Inc. today
commented on Powermate Corporations announced bankruptcy. Ralph
Jolivet, company President has offered retraining and positions with
his company based in Canada and the USA. "(AGI) supplies north
America with gas and diesel power generators and continues to grow"
said Jolivet. Jolivet also said that their company who sells mostly
online at EmergencyPower.com has managed to get a stronghold on the
market by monitoring customers comments, updating their products and
always meeting buyers demands. Direct to home shipping has virtually
eliminated a middle man reducing their cost and enabling them to focus
on quality and service. AGI formed in 2005 focusing on more reliable
diesel generator products and currently sells over $15 million in
diesel generators a year.

It's also important to note that when the wind stops blowing and wind farm electricity generation drops, the process usually takes hours. By contrast, other power plants may go out of service instantaneously when a problem occurs. Wind forecasting, which could have helped address the ERCOT situation, can and is being used by utility system operators to manage wind on their systems, and will become standard practice as the use of this clean, renewable energy source continues to grow.--Tom Gray, American Wind Energy Association, www.awea.org

Comment on Widespread power outages reported across Florida by admin

Florida Power & Light Co. said its preliminary investigation indicates human error was the cause of a blackout Tuesday that knocked out power across the state, especially in Miami-Dade County.

The blackout, affected about 584,000 FP&L customers and an additional half-million across three other utilities, began with a field engineer diagnosing a switch that had malfunctioned at a substation in West Miami. Without authorization, FP&L said the engineer disabled two levels of relay protection, and during the diagnostic process, a fault occurred and, because both levels of relay protection had been removed, caused an outage ultimately affecting 26 transmission lines and 38 substations.

One of the substations affected serves three of the generation units at Turkey Point, including a natural gas unit, as well as both nuclear units, which shut down automatically. Two other generation plants in FP&L's system were affect and the system lost a total of 3,400 megawatts of generating capacity.

Comment on King Canada Generators Recalled by MorganPardy

I purchased a King Generator KCG-3000G two years ago. A short while ago, I was talking to a friend who informed me of the recall. When I checked with King Canada. I was told it was a recall and to stop using it immediately because it may catch fire. I was given a toll free number to call, and when I called, I was advised it had to be returned to a dealership qualified by King Canada to have the repairs done. That shop is a 4.5 hour drive one way, and I was to be responsible for all transportation and costs. I asked if I could send it on a courier for approx: $25 each way. I was told they would not be responsible for transportation costs. If these generators have to be recalled because of dangerous defects, then I feel the company should be responsible for transportation costs. I bought this generator in good faith and is using it in a 35' fiberglass motorhome. If it catches fire now, the motorhome insurance will not be honoured because of this recall. I would like for some person with a name and title to email me concerning this problem, so the Better Business Bureau of Newfoundland will have someone to talk to.
